We’re excited to announce 8 new players and ScreenCloud OS features that are now available in Studio, Screens Manager, and our RDM Console.

We’re always striving to add new features that make it easier to manage your digital signage screens and the devices powering them, and with this batch of updates, we have a roundup of some improvements that have been very highly requested by our customers.

1. New Pairing Screen

You may have noticed that the pairing screen you see after setting up a new device has looked a bit different recently, and that’s because we’ve given it a redesign, as well as adding the ability to pair new screens by simply scanning the QR code that’s available on this new pairing screen. Scanning this new QR code will take you straight into Studio and get your screen paired and ready to set content to. If you haven’t tried it yet, try it today!

2. Device Time for Playback Mode in Studio

Ever find yourself wanting to keep your screens in sync with each other when playing the same content? If so, then you’re not alone! Many of our customers find themselves in the same situation, and up till now we’ve had playback mode options for your screens where you can set the content to sync or not. And now we’ve added one additional option, to set the playback mode for a screen to “Device Time”, which can provide even closer content syncing by using device time.

3. Column Management in Screens Manager

It’s now possible to customize which columns of information are displayed in Screens Manager, as well as edit the order of these columns, making it easier for you to make Screens Manager your own and view the information about your screens that’s most important to you. To use this new feature, simply select the new “Column” option in the top right corner of Screens Manager.

4. Retry failed OTA updates in the RDM Console

For our customers using ScreenCloud OS, we are always adding new features and improvements via automatic OTA updates. Sometimes though, an OTA update can fail if interrupted, leaving the device on an older version of ScreenCloud OS until another OTA update is released. To assist with scenarios where this happens, we’ve made it possible to retry OTA updates in the RDM Console and you will now see the option to retry an OTA update for a ScreenCloud OS device that is running an out-of-date OS version.

5. Improved search in the RDM Console

We’ve improved the search capabilities in the RDM Console, now making it possible to search by any device attribute, meaning for example, you can search for a specific device by searching for its IP address or MAC address, or even searching for the OS version it's using or the Space it’s in.

6. Update trusted site certificates in the RDM Console

In order to display local links with self-signed certificates using a ScreenCloud OS device, you’ll need to add these trusted site certificates to your device. It’s already possible to do this when setting up your ScreenCloud OS device using USB provisioning (see here), but now it’s also possible to add or update these trusted site certificates in the RDM Console, which makes things even easier.

7. Set daily restart in the RDM Console

Setting a daily restart for a device, player app or a device’s browser engine can help with issues as a daily restart can help free up resources. And it’s now possible to set a daily restart for the Chromium browser engine used in ScreenCloud OS in the RDM Console. You can also set the time period in which you want this daily restart to occur in order to avoid it disrupting the display of content.

8. OS update settings in the RDM Console

We know how important it is for our customers to be able to test major new versions of the operating systems that power their digital signage devices before they are fully released and rolled out, and we’ve now made it possible to test pre-release versions of major new versions of ScreenCloud OS.

By testing pre-release versions of major new versions of ScreenCloud OS with their content, network setups and other aspects of their environments, our customers can be assured that everything works without issue, and in the case where they do spot issues, they can report them to us and then see them fixed in subsequent pre-release versions of ScreenCloud OS.

To enable this for our upcoming ScreenCloud OS 3.0 release, we’ve added the ability to change your OS update settings in the RDM Console, in order to switch the OTA update channel used by your ScreenCloud OS device to either Stable or Canary.
